Our Trip to San Diego!

In February we were invited to San Diego for my friends 30th birthday! This would be our first time flying together and we were also escaping the dead of winter here in New Jersey. Can’t beat that! *Don’t mind all of the iPhone photos!

Travel Day

This was our first time flying together and Korey’s first time ever flying! Security went pretty smoothly and we found our gate. I realized that I forgot to check in online and noticed that there were no longer 2 seats together on the entire flight! Being that it was Korey’s first time flying I felt SO bad and tried to see if there was anything the front desk could do. They were so friendly and said they would try! Eventually we boarded and waited as everyone was on board. There was an empty seat next to me as the final boarding time came and went! Korey was about to move next to me when an announcement was made that we would have to de-board due to issues during the inspection! We then had to go across the airport to another gate and had a 2 hour delay.

When we arrived in San Diego, we were so hungry and tired so all we could do was get settled and order takeout. We had the most amazing carnitas quesadillas!

Day 1

Valentine’s day was our first full day! Oh I should also mention that it was supposed to pour all day long! We had breakfast at an amazing restaurant called Snooze an A.M. Eatery and it was DELICIOUS! I had the best breakfast tacos I have ever had in my life and Korey ordered a red velvet pancake and avocado toast. Since it was raining, we weren’t able to do the sight seeing I had planned which was a bummer! We were still able to go to the Birch Aquarium which was so much fun! After that, we had our first In-N-Out burger experience and it definitely lived up to the hype. We then went back to our Air BnB because we were super jet-lagged and it was so cold, windy and rainy.

Day 2

We checked out of our Air Bnb to meet up with my friends. First stop breakfast! I had the breakfast tacos (again) and Korey had the avocado toast (again!) I’m pretty sure we both ordered the same thing for breakfast every day! We then all headed to the next Air BnB in Ocean Beach where we spent the weekend. That night we did a little bit of bar-hopping and Korey and I turned in a little early– the jet lag struggle was SO real!

Day 3

On Saturday, we woke up early and packed our camera bags for an Engagement session at Balboa park and Ocean Beach, (click HERE to see!). We had the best time with Chad and Amanda– they are such a sweet and fun couple! We are SO excited and honored to be doing both photo and video for their New Year’s Eve wedding in Charlotte, North Carolina this year! Balboa Park is so amazing and there are endless gardens and museums to explore.

After the photo shoot, we met up with everyone else for a rooftop lunch. It was such a pretty day and the food at Doner Mediterranean grill was amazing! That night we did birthday dinner for my friend, Jenessa. It was another night of good company, good friends and good food! Oh– check out that last photo! You can see how much we LOVE Doritos!

Day 4

On Sunday Korey and I woke up early again for another photo session. This time WE were in front of the camera (blog post to come)! We did a session swap with fellow AJ photographers Jenn and Lisa who both live in San Diego! After the session swap, we headed back to the Air Bnb where everyone was just waking up to start the day.

We all packed into the car and an Uber and headed to La Jolla! We walked along La Jolla Cove to see the seals and sea lions sun bathing. It was so neat because December to May is considered to be “pupping season” which meant we saw tons of baby seals and sea lions! We also went down into one of the man-made caves which took two men and two years to build!

We then walked around La Jolla and had lunch and drinks at an amazing Mexican Restaurant Verdes el Ranchero. They had great Margaritas and the best chips and queso I’ve ever had! The salsa was also SO tasty!

Day 5

Our last full day in San Diego was spent relaxing. We went to the dog beach with Jenessa, her boyfriend Eric and their adorable blue nose pitbull, Chico! Chico looks exactly like Zoey and it made us miss her like CRAZY after being away from her for so many days. After the dog beach, Korey and I decided to walk along the beach and watch the sun set. It was such an amazing sight, but we do recommend wearing warm layers because San Diego is cold at night!
