Mystic Sailboat Engagement Session – Julie and Aaron

When Julie told us she and Aaron wanted to do their engagement session on her aunt’s sailboat in Mystic, Connecticut, we were so excited! It was the first time we shot on a boat and it was perfection!

The Love Story

Julie and Aaron met online, like many millennials do! As they were getting to know each other, they realized they lived 1 mile apart from each other! Since they were so close, they decided to meet for a drink the same night. The next day, they went for a boat ride and the rest was history! They have now been together for four years. They just celebrated their four year anniversary in August!

On their first official date, Aaron took Julie wakeboarding. She was so nervous because she had already developed a crush on Aaron, but in the end, she was able to stand! A few days later, they went to a Jake Owen concert.

Peddlers Village Proposal

Julie and Aaron got engaged on December 21, 2019. They go to Peddler’s Village around Christmas time to see all of the magical decorations and gingerbread houses. Aaron planned a waterfront dinner at the Black Bass Hotel where he would propose! During their meal, Aaron asked the waitress to take a photo for them. All of a sudden, music in the restaurant started playing. As they posed for the photo, Aaron got down on one knee! The restaurant was filled with people but the two began to dance and they felt like they were the only ones in the room. Their proposal sounds like a romantic movie scene!

Mystic Connecticut Sailboat Engagement Session

Julie’s aunt and uncle own a beautiful sailboat (Gratiet) in Mystic, Connecticut. Gratiet has played a pivotal role in her aunt and uncle’s lives and marriage. It’s a long story, but essentially, Graciet was the reason her aunt and uncle met. After many years of living on the boat, Aunt Junie and Uncle Alan sold Graciet. Then, in 2014 Julie came across the boat on a boat trading site. Julie immediately recognized the boat and Junie and Alan bought it back the very next day!

Julie and Aaron go to Mystic often and it was so important to them to have their engagement photos taken here. We’re so honored to have had this opportunity to work with them and capture their beautiful sailboat engagement session! I’m also so excited that we got to meet Julie’s Aunt Junie and Uncle Alan. I also photographed them for their very first professional photo on the sailboat that brought them together!
