About The Olde Mill Inn Wedding Venue
225 Route 202 Basking Ridge, NJ 07920
The Olde Mill Inn has a rich history that goes all the way back to 1768! Samuel Lewis, a miller, originally purchased the land and passed it on to his grandson, Richard Southard, in 1777. Richard discovered that its location was a convenient major thoroughfare between New York and Philadelphia, making the property prime for commerce, particularly amid the Revolutionary War. The land and its structures were passed through generations and multiple families before being purchased by famous restaurateur William Childs in 1929.
Childs saw potential in the barn near the old mill, eventually moving the structure and converting it into a hotel. He chose to preserve the spirit of the historic building with a “painstaking” restoration, eventually adding on what is now the current Olde Mill Inn hotel, venue, and meeting center in the 1970s. The Grain House Restaurant, however, remains almost exactly as it was over two centuries ago. Today, The Olde Mill Inn is a charming Central New Jersey hotel. Furthermore, the Grain House Restaurant is a true local favorite!
