New Jersey Engagement Session – Nicole and Ryan

Nicole and Ryan have had quite the unconventional engagement. They got engaged in September of 2016 (yes.. over TWO years ago!!). While they have a home in Lake Hopatcong, Nicole is attending PA school in New York and Ryan is working over 80 hours a week in Maryland! Continue reading to find out more about their love story.. how Ryan asked Nicole to spend forever with him.. and more about their New Jersey Engagement Session at Colonial Park in Somerset!

New Jersey Love Story

Nicole and Ryan were neighbors growing up. Ryan moved in when he was 15 and Nicole was 13 years old! They never spoke until over a year later when they were formally introduced on the football field of their high school. They became friends and began to hang out more regularly. Nicole and Ryan even attended Homecoming as friends because they were both nominated for Homecoming Court. The sweet couple officially started dating on May 9th 2009! That’s right, they have been together for TEN years!

Early on in their relationship, Nicole recalls being so nervous on one of their first official dates. Ryan had already graduated high school and he went to pick Nicole up from school. He took her to Panera and while she was filling her drink cup, she accidentally filled her cup with iced BLACK coffee instead of iced tea!! She was so nervous and embarrassed that she decided to tough it out and drink her unsweetened, no creamer iced coffee. Ryan noticed that something was off with her drink and offered to get her a new one. They still laugh about this story to this very day!

Being that Nicole and Ryan live in different states most of the time, they cherish any quality time they can get! As mentioned earlier, Nicole works a 40+ hour clinical week and Ryan works 80+ hours! Needless to say, quality time is difficult to come by. They love to spend their time cooking or ordering Cambiotti’s Pizza. Nicole and Ryan also love relaxing on the couch watching HGTV– Chip and Joanna Gaines are their favorite!

New Jersey Wedding Proposal

Ryan asked Nicole to spend forever with him on September 5th, 2016 on Labor Day Weekend. Nicole spends every Labor Day with her family at her Aunt Lori and Uncle Tom’s house. She recalls not feeling well that day and chose to dress more casually than she normally would. Ryan took their sweet Yorkie, Rocky for a walk down by the lake. He called for Nicole to come join him. Since she wasn’t feeling well, she reluctantly joined him (completely clueless as to what was about to happen). Nicole could tell something was up because she heard the nervousness in Ryan’s voice. Ryan dropped to one knee and told Nicole he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. As he asked her to marry him, she began to cry in disbelief!

Both Ryan and Nicole’s families were present for the sweet moment and they have plenty of photos and videos to remember this special day. After Nicole said yes, they shared the sweetest embrace. Soon after, the newly engaged couple went to pick up pizza’s for everyone. While they were gone, their families transformed the home into a proposal party! There were cupcakes, balloons, cookies and gifts! It was such a special day for both families.

Nicole and Ryan will be getting married on February 14th, 2020 (Valentine’s Day!!). They will have a church ceremony followed by a reception at Nanina’s in the Park.

Colonial Park Engagement Session

We had the best time during Nicole and Ryan’s New Jersey Engagement Session! We met with the sweet couple at Colonial Park in Somerset, NJ on an overcast Sunday. All of our fingers crossed that the weather would hold up and to our excitement, it did! Nicole and Ryan wore two outfits, a dressy outfit and a casual one (although I thought BOTH outfits were pretty dressy!). We walked around the Arboretum taking photos near the most incredible Magnolia trees and all over the park. We also went to the Rose Garden. It was such an intimate setting and we were able to capture sweet and fun moments for this incredible and joyful couple. We had so much fun with Nicole and Ryan! We were all laughing the ENTIRE time!

Here are some of our favorites from their New Jersey Engagement Session at Colonial Park!
